I think it was one of the daughter’s birthdays. Mini review: ...

Health Care Realities  →
So here’s the bottom line: if you currently have decent health insurance, thank the government. It’s true that if you’re young and healthy, with nothing in your medical history that could possibly have raised red flags with corporate accountants, you might have been able to get insurance without government intervention. But time and chance happen to us all, and the only reason you have a...

Went to Gibson yesterday.
Gibson is a “speakeasy,” meaning- a bar.  Thought the atmosphere of an illegal bar is cool.  It is quiet with no annoying ass bar music.  Gibson is seated service only, so it looks really empty compared to all other bars, and is by reservation only.  They serve traditional drinks from the 1930’s, which is kinda BS, but whatever.  booze from the 30’s, unless it was smuggled...

jeffmiller: robot-heart-politics: “Although I’ve gotta say, when I hear critics talk about out of control spending I start scratchin’ my head. I can’t help but remember, those same critics contributed to a $1.3 trillion deficit that I inherited when I took office. I mean, seriously, I’m now president, so I’m responsible for solving it, but I don’t think we should have a selective memory. You...

For those with a taste for the apocalyptic, however, there is always the Happiness Realisation Party. Offering what it calls a “third choice”, the HRP has an eye-catching manifesto: multiply Japan’s population by two-and-a-half to 300 million, overtake America to become the planet’s leading power, pre-emptively strike North Korea and rearm for war with China. If elected,...

Most Americans continue to want the federal government to focus on reducing the budget deficit rather than spending money to stimulate the national economy, a new New York Times/CBS News poll finds. Yet at the same time, most oppose some proposed solution for decreasing it.

COUNT Kid Rock out as a fan of Twitter. “It’s gay. If one more person asks me if I have a Twitter, I’m going to tell them, ‘Twitter this [bleep], mother[bleep]er,’ ” the shaggy-haired rocker tells Rolling Stone. “I don’t have anything to say, and what I have to say is not that relevant. Anything that is relevant, I’m going to bottle it up and...

robot-heart-politics: Bayh pitching for health care reforms that cater to the health insurance industry is kind of like Max Baucus talking about how much better it will be if we just let the insurance companies keep robbing us blind. A little hard to stomach.

I voted against every dollar of stimulus spending this year. In my view, the stimulus proposals were excessive. But once these laws were approved, and Texas taxpayer money was committed, I did my best to make certain the state got back its share of those tax dollars. Neil Abercrombie of Hawaii is going to introduce a resolution on the House floor today that seems designed to put House GOPers who are flirting with birtherism in a jam. The Ghost's of Clintoncare →
So Clinton sought to cage managed care inside managed competition, which would regulate the behavior of insurers and force them to compete for patients. This would give consumers more power against their insurance companies, drive the bad actors from the market and generally protect against the excesses of managed care. Clinton’s plan also included a handful of other safeguards, like...
