Inhofe's List of "Prominent Scientists"

robot-heart-politics:

azspot:bellatoris:

On the contrary, some of us who are Christians (and who aren’t) are merely looking at a number of factors - including the current global cooling trend, past predictions about both global warming and global cooling - to conclude that global warming, such as it is, is a naturally reversing (and repeating) trend.  As such, we include as part of our viewpoint the opinions of “The distinguished scientists featured in this new report [U. S. Senate Minority Report: More Than 700 International Scientists Dissent Over Man-Made Global Warming Claims; Scientists Continue to Debunk “Consensus” in 2008 & 2009 who] are experts in diverse fields, including: climatology; geology; biology; glaciology; biogeography; meteorology; oceanography; economics; chemistry; mathematics; environmental sciences; astrophysics, engineering; physics and paleoclimatology. Some of those profiled have won Nobel Prizes for their outstanding contribution to their field of expertise and many shared a portion of the UN IPCC Nobel Peace Prize with Vice President Gore. Additionally, these scientists hail from prestigious institutions worldwide, including: Harvard University; NASA; National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR); Massachusetts Institute of Technology; the UN IPCC; the Danish National Space Center; U.S. Department of Energy; Princeton University; the Environmental Protection Agency; University of Pennsylvania; Hebrew University of Jerusalem; the International Arctic Research Centre; the Pasteur Institute in Paris; the Belgian Weather Institute; Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute; the University of Helsinki; the National Academy of Sciences of the U.S., France, and Russia; the University of Pretoria; University of Notre Dame; Abo Akademi University in Finland; University of La Plata in Argentina; Stockholm University; Punjab University in India; University of Melbourne; Columbia University; the World Federation of Scientists; and the University of London.”

Inhofe’s list of scientists is frequently trotted out by global warming denialists as a rejoinder, proving there indeed is a “debate” and no scientific consensus.

Here’s a collection of links exposing Inhofe’s phony list business. Inhofe’s “scientists” include economists, the retired, television weathermen, mathmeticians, amateurs and industry spokespersons. Worse, some of the “prominent scientists” listed in Inhofe’s report have publicly stated that Inhofe is misrepresenting them as skeptics. In fact, just google Inhofe 650 and you can immediately have this nonsense debunked.

And here’s a breakdown of each entry on the list (when the list was 650, not 700).

And can I just say, there are a lot of economists on this list. :)

Listen, scientific consensus is a useless consensus.  Science is not and should not be decided by what is popular- science is not a democracy.  There is no subject in Science where a debate has ended.  A scientist who is not a skeptic of everything is a very poor scientist.
