because the American public is grossly ignorant on the subject and reality of wealth, economics, and taxation.
on the one hand this ignorance is terrible because they don’t know how things work in general.
on the other hand this ignorance is good because if everyone was a cold realist I don’t know what that world would look like- but it would probably be boring.
on the gripping hand, I think you can know what a graduated income tax is, the other federal taxes are that you pay and don’t pay (because you don’t pay capital gains because you are poor like everyone else), have a general idea of what other people pay in taxes, and also know what people do when they have excess money and not by an abusive cynical realist all the time.
