the turmoil is in your mind. Things have always been awful.  Better methods of communication and message saturation from the internet and cable television have enabled more people to see the conditions of others.  This heightened awareness reveals greater apparent differences, resulting in the ‘turmoil’ you believe you see as having increased.  the difference has always been there though, only now anyone with a grievance has an outlet.  Comity in the past was through real and perceived mutual arrangements not to discuss how awful is.
