It’s ok. It’s much closer to a small town affair than to NYC Pride. heavier emphasis on politicians and political groups. we do a parade and drink. the next day they set up a outdoor tent and booth thing with a stage for Gloria Gaynor or whoever they can get to sing along with our GMC. the booths get steadily worse as I age, more real estate agents and pet therapists.
I’ll share two awful parade events that could only happen here. The first was last year when the new Mayor Vince Gray, who isn’t popular at all with the white gays kind of hid himself in a crowd of matching “taxation without representation” t-shirt wearing associates and no one noticed that the mayor just walked by. it was a really effective strategy for him to participate in the parade and not get booed.
the second was HRC’s float/tithe plate from a few years ago, when they had their interns jumping around with giant baskets to actually catch change and cash that was supposed to be thrown at them.
